Second of Two Nomination Meeting

As a reminder for the upcoming May 5, 2014 Mount Airy Election, The Board of Supervisors of Elections will hold nomination meetings for two Town Council positions and the Mayor’s position. Nominations will remain open from the first Nominations Meeting on February 10, 2014 through the second Nominations Meeting on February 19, 2014. Both meetings will be held at Town Hall and start at 7:00 p.m.
Qualifications for Council position (C2-2): You must be a registered voter and Town resident for one year prior to election; give written consent to place name on the ballot (C5-6); and
file a Financial Disclosure Statement within two business days of the nomination. (13-5C).
Qualifications for Mayor’s position (C4-2): You must be a registered voter and Town resident for two years prior to election; at least 25 years of age; give written consent to place name on the ballot (C5-6); and File a Financial Disclosure Statement within two business days of the nomination. (13-5C).
Nominations must be made by a citizen of the Town or by an eligible citizen who wishes to run for office (C5-6B). The name and address of the person making the nomination is required. In between the two Nomination Meetings, written nominations (with the nominees written consent) may be given to the Town Clerk during Town Hall office hours. At the end of the nominations period, at the February 19th meeting, the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors of Elections, will read the names of the candidates to be put on the ballot for the Town Clerk to start the election process.
Voter Information
Polling place is at the Mount Airy Volunteer Fireman’s Activities Building on Twin Arch Road. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Last Day for registration is April 4, 2014 at 5:00 pm. If you are a town citizen registered to vote with the county you are automatically registered to vote in the Mount Airy Town elections.
Absentee Ballots will be available at Town Hall on March 10, 2014. Voters must apply in person or in writing stating their name, home address and signature.
An alternate is needed to serve on the Board of Supervisors of Elections. If interested please contact the Town Clerk.
