The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind all residents that at this time of year with the warm temperatures and more activities occurring outdoors that you maintain vigilance keeping your property secure. Please follow the following precautions:

o When outdoors doing yard work or engaging in activities keep your home locked. Those looking for opportunities to steal may attempt to enter homes when they observe residents outside away from the house and enter through unlocked screen doors or locations away from the view of homeowners.

o Make sure property such as lawn mowers, bicycles, power tools, and vehicles are secured to prevent thieves from removing your property. Garage entrances should also be secured particularly overnight to avoid giving thieves an opportunity to remove your property.

o Be cautious of anyone representing themselves from a company that needs to access your home to inspect or repair anything that you have not previously arranged. Representatives of legitimate companies will have identification which you should request, then contact the company to verify any need to access your home. Also be wary of unsolicited offers to conduct repairs or provide other services for your home.

o Please be careful in our neighborhoods with children out enjoying the warm weather, please observe posted speed limits and watch for unexpected people or objects to come into the roadway.

We hope that you enjoy a peaceful and safe summer. If you would like further information or would like a representative of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office to attend an event or speak at a community meeting, please contact us at 410-386-2900.
