THE AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN

Mayor's Press Release: THE AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN AND THE TOWN OF MOUNT AIRY

I wanted to take this opportunity to share with the citizens of Mount Airy that with the President signing the American Rescue Plan today the Town of Mount Airy has learned that it will be the recipient of $15,809,940 in funding.

 At this time, we have been advised that these funds must be used to:

  • Respond to or mitigate the COVID-19 health emergency or its negative economic impacts, including assistance to households, small businesses, nonprofits, and aid for tourism, travel, and hospitality;
  • To provide essential workers with premium pay;
  • Cover revenue loss as a result incurred as a result of the COVID-19 emergency; or
  • To make necessary investments in water, sewer, or broadband infrastructure.

Although details, specifics and requirements will be coming in the future, the fact remains that these funds will play a role in the future of our Town.  Our goal is to earmark these funds to aid in the recovery of the devastating effect that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on our small businesses and how it can be used to strengthen us as we move forward.

 We will not take this task lightly and will look at this opportunity to benefit our community in the long run.  My hope is that it will serve as a silver lining to dark clouds that have loomed over us for the past year.

Mayor Patrick Rockinberg
