TOWN OF MOUNT AIRY
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF ELECTIONS
Election Day - The Mount Airy Election will be held on Monday, May 3, 2021 at the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Department Reception Hall located at 1008 Twin Arch Road, Mount Airy. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Absentees – Absentee ballots will be available as of April 12, 2021. To request a ballot a “Request for Absentee Ballot” form must be completed and returned to Town Hall at 110 S. Main Street, in the night dropbox, or via email to Colleen Reilly at [email protected]. Download the Absentee Ballot form or request at the email address provided. Voters uncomfortable voting in person due to the Covid-19 pandemic may file an Absentee Ballot. Voters requesting to vote by Absentee Ballot are strongly encouraged to use the night dropbox at Town Hall for returning completed ballots.
Registration deadline and information: The last day to register to vote in the 2021 Mount Airy Election will be on APRIL 5, 2021 AT 5:00 P.M. If you currently live in the Mount Airy Town limits and are registered with Frederick or Carroll County Election Board, you are automatically registered to vote in the Town Election.
Additional Information – Please note that the procedure for write-in candidates was changed in 2013. Complete election details can be found on the Mount Airy Website at www.mountairymd.gov, in the Town Code. You may also contact the Town Clerk at Town Hall at 301-829-1424 or via email at [email protected] if you have any questions regarding the election.
March 15, 2021 - Second Nomination Meeting at 7:00 p.m., at the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Department Reception Hall, 1008 Twin Arch Road, Mount Airy -- when all nominations will be read and given to the Town Clerk to put on the ballot. Nominations will be accepted at both Nomination Meetings and by contacting Holly McCleary at Town Hall, 301-829-1424 or via email at [email protected] during the week between the two Nomination Meetings. Eligible individuals seeking elective office may submit a nomination. Eligible citizens may nominate an individual with the written consent of the nominee.
NOMINATION GUILDELINES:
- Must be at least 25 Need the name and address of person making nomination.
- Need the correct name and address of the person nominated.
- Need the name as it is to be placed on the ballot
- Individuals seeking elective office may submit a nomination. Eligible citizens may nominate an individual with the written consent of the nominee (§C5-6B) .
QUALIFICATIONS FOR MAYOR'S POSITION (§C4-2):
- The Mayor must have resided in the Town of Mount Airy for at least two years immediately preceding his election;
- must be at least 25 years of age
- must be a qualified voter of the Town
QUALIFICATIONS FOR COUNCIL POSITION (§C2-2):
- The Mayor must have resided in the Town of Mount Airy for at least two years immediately preceding his election;
- Written consent to place name on the ballot (§C5-6), and
- File a Financial Disclosure Statement within ten calendar days of the nomination (§13-5C).
