Awards/Feats

  • Town of Mount Airy receives Frederick County Municipalities Business Attraction award for Envision Tour
  • Town of Mount Airy awarded Sustainable Maryland designation
  • Mount Airy has a total self-response rate for the 2020 Census of 86.3%

Budget Projects Completed

  • Main  Street Sidewalks and other improvements including adding pavement around telephone poles and new cluster mailboxes  
  • Feasibility Study for new  Police Station  
  • New traffic guidance on South Main Steet extended to guide motorists away from dead end  
  • Music scheduled from 11:00 - 7:00 PM daily using new speakers on Main Street!  
  • Downtown Site Improvements Phase I which included the site work, parking, traffic redirection and  improvements to Center Street, Park Avenue, Veterans Lane and Cross Street
  • Summit Ridge ADA accesible parking for new pavilion
  • Inflow and Infiltration Reduction project replaced 60 manholes  
  • New Dog Park area added to Watkins Park Dog Park  
  • New Scissor Lift for the Department of Public Works
  • New Police Vehicle purchased to accommodate additional officer 
  • First round of Hometown Heroes banner program installed!

  • Mount Airy Historical Society Bingo raises funds to cover new rear platform to Town's caboose
  • Mount Airy civic organizations go above and beyond for outreach to the vulnerable senior citizen population, including arranging grocery deliveries and personal phone calls
  • Historical Society builds new display; a model replica of downtown Mount Airy
  • Troop 460 and Sam Johnson construct new dugout at Watkins Park for Eagle Scout project
  • Jim Morton receives Mayoral Award for Exemplary Community Service for 30 years as Scoutmaster of Troop 460 mentoring nearly 100 Eagle Scouts
  • Mount Airy Net provided food to 278 families of 950 people
  • Ava’s T21 Foundation raises $75,000 to contribute towards the new Watkins Park Inclusive Playground
  • Beverly Blatchford receives 2020 Volunteer of the Year AWARD for her diligent efforts to keep Mount Airy beautiful

  • four new Tesla Destination Chargers and two new Super-Chargers from the EV institute at Watkins Park and the municipal lot
  • New Wayward sign at Historic Train Station

  • Historic Year of the Woman photo on Main Street, Mount Airy
  • Small Business Operating Assistance GRANT approved and distributed $1000 each to 19 Mount Airy small businesses for COVID-19 relief
  • The Town of Mount Airy’s very first Business Relief Loan Program created and approved
  • Mount Airy’s $hop $mall Contest awards $5,000 in prizes and encourages over $169,000 in sales for Mount Airy small businesses
  • Official Town of Mount Airy Ornaments sold via ecommerce
  • Santa Motorcade and (sold out) Santa Workshop in place of Main Street Christmas and parade
  • First ever Town Menorah Lighting

Grants Awarded

  • State Community Legacy Program funded 50% of improvement projects; new Deja Vu Boutique signage as well as facade rehabilitation at the Castle Center, Simpson Hotel, and new awnings at historic firehouse building downtown
  • Maryland State Art Council awards Mount Airy $2500 for a public art project
  • Awarded $500,000 in MD State Capital Grants funding towards the acquisition of the property that would  allow Center Streets to connect
  • Awarded the Keep America  Beautiful grant in the amount of $4,000 to purchase items for composting  efforts
  • Awarded $200,728 through the MD Department of Natural Resources Community Parks and Playground Grant.  New accessible playground and pavilion scheduled for spring 2021 install.
  • Matching $25,000 grant awarded from the MD Dept. of Housing and Community Development for the Historic Downtown District Awarded 11 businesses $4,545
  • Awarded $300,000 in MD State capital Miscellaneous grant funding for the CSX land acquisition West of Main Street and worked with CSX for purchase agreement
  • Awarded $17,980 from the Maryland Historical Trust Maryland Heritage Area Program for the Historic Train Station Roof, Gutter and Downspouts project
  • Awarded $74,603 from Carroll County Program Open Space grant to use towards parkland acquisition

  • Created Mount Airy's first Emergency Response Team to address the needs of the community concerning the COVID-19 pandemic
