SECTION 112-62 ENTITLED “SPECIAL EXCEPTIONS”

AND 112-71 ENTITLED “DEFINITIONS” THAT WOULD

PERMIT SALE OF FIRE ARMS IN RESIDENTIAL DISTRICTS

AS A HOME OCCUPATION SPECIAL EXCEPTION

On December 5, 2016, the Town Council of the Town of Mount Airy will hold a second public hearing at Town Hall, 110 South Main Street, Mt. Airy, MD 21771 beginning at 7:00 p.m. regarding a proposed amendment to Chapter 112 of the Town Code entitled “Zoning”, Section 112-62 entitled “Special exceptions”, subsection F(7) setting forth the specific standards for “Home Occupations” and Section 112-71 entitled “Word usage and definitions” and the definition of “Home Occupation” contained in that section. The proposed changes to the Town Code would permit the sale (to include by way of internet, arms length or mail order transactions) of fire arms in residential zoning districts as a home occupation special exception and would impose specific standards on the granting of such special exception to promote safety and to mitigate impact on surrounding residences.
