Fire Prevention Open House
October 4, 2015 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Event Navigation
The Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company will be holding our annual Fire Safety Open House on Sunday, October 4, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the fire station, 702 North Main Street. This event is in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week which was established by Presidential Proclamation in the years following the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.
This year’s focus for Fire Prevention Week is on smoke alarms. We want everyone to “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep”. Maryland has a smoke alarm law that took effect in 2013 that now requires a smoke alarm on each level of the home and in each sleeping area. Battery powered smoke alarms over 10 years old must be replaced with new units that have 10 year permanent batteries. All electrically powered smoke alarms over 10 years old must be replaced with new electrically powered units with a battery backup. Be sure to vacuum the dust from smoke alarms monthly to insure proper operation.
Open House activities will include demonstrations of fire, EMS and rescue equipment, interactive learning for children and adults, station tours, and apparatus displays. Fire prevention and life safety information as well as goody bags for the kids will be available to take home. Refreshments will also be provided.
Come and meet your local firefighters, see the fire, EMS and rescue equipment that is used in your community and learn how to make your home fire safe. Learn what to do in case of an emergency at your home.
The Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company, the Maryland State Fire Marshal, the National Fire Protection Association and Sparky say “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep “. Stop by and learn more at the Fire Safety Open House October 4th.
