Mount Airy Main Street will be hosting Celebrate Summer, presented by the Mount Airy Main Street Association. The event will be two parts held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 in the morning with a Sidewalk Chalk Competition and evening with a concert, games and outdoor movie.
The annual Sidewalk Chalk Art Competition is free to enter, with free chalk, and there are prizes for the winners! Join with your friends and neighbors to create a team, or create a solo masterpiece; our art theme for the weekend is ROCK AND ROLL! Visit the MAMSA tent next to Town Hall beginning at 10:00AM to pick up your free chalk and be assigned a working space. Artists can create their work between 10:00AM and 1:00PM, when judging will take place and prizes will be awarded to the winners. Through the afternoon, shoppers are encouraged to walk the entire length of Main Street to enjoy the magnificent artistic creations!
Later in the evening, come to the Railyard at 3 North Main Street where there will be free activities such as bubbles, jump ropes, and hula hoops to enjoy! The festivities begin at 6:00PM. Visit the Downtown shops before and bring your dinner or snacks outside to the picnic tables. A rockin’ performance from Elvis will begin at 7:00PM and will be followed by a free showing of the movie Blue Hawaii at approximately 8:30PM when it is finally dusk. For the concert and the movie, bring your own blankets or chairs. Plenty of parking is available at the Mt. Airy Town Municipal Parking lot, located at 12 Avenue, next door to the Railyard.
