Year of the Woman 2020

2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing and protecting women's constitutional right to vote. Throughout 2020 we will spotlight women of Mount Airy’s history, as well as women who are impacting Mount Airy’s future. Planned events include hosting a Dress for Success Fashion Show to raise funds for organizations who offer professional attire and development tools that help women thrive in the workplace and life an historic aerial photo where we will ask all of Mount Airy’s women to line Main Street, in historic downtown Mount Airy!

Year of the Woman Dedication Ceremony

Tuesday, January 28th at 6:30 PM- All are welcome to attend this Dedication Ceremony, where Mayor Patrick Rockinberg will read a proclamation declaring 2020 as "Year of the Woman 2020", a year-long celebration honoring the centennial anniversary of the 19th Amendment, granting woman the right to vote. Join us at Town Hall for the kickoff celebration!

My Town Photo Contest Voting

Now through January 20th- Cast your vote! The submissions are in and there are some great ones of our wonderful town! The Town is looking for your vote for the favorite photo. Winner receives $100 and a Mount Airy swag bag! Cast your vote by January 20th at midnight to be counted! Click here to view the photos.

Mount Airy's First Pickleball Tournament- Register Now!

Saturday March 28th starting at 9:00 AM will be the first ever Pickleball Tournament for the Town of Mount Airy! It will be at our new courts at Prospect Park!

The tournament will be as follows:
9:00 am-12:00 pm noon: Novice/Advanced Novice Mixed Doubles—create your own team
1:00 pm-4:00 pm: Intermediate/Advanced Intermediate Mixed Doubles—create your own team. Cost is $20 per team for each session. There will only be 8 teams per session. ALL proceeds will go directly to the Parks & Recreation programs for the Town of Mount Airy. Click on the above link to register your team!

Downtown Chocolate Crawl

Friday, February 14 from 5-8:00 PM - The Mount Airy Main Street Association presents “Chocolate Crawl”.
All are welcome to an evening of small town charm, shopping, dining, and free carriage rides. Businesses will offer in-store promotions, special samples, and CHOCOLATE! Chocolate Crawl is about bringing the community together, to share and make new memories. Downtown Mount Airy has 7 restaurants & cafes, a distillery, and over 10 retail businesses to keep you busy through the night.

If I Were Mayor Essay Contest

Deadline March 27th - "Each year, MML and the Maryland Mayors’ Association (MMA) invite 4th grade students throughout Maryland to participate in a statewide essay contest: “If I Were Mayor, I Would...”
The contest gives students a chance to creatively use grade-specific language arts skills and civics / social studies knowledge." Mayor Rockinberg's school visits to both Mount Airy Elementary and Twin Ridge will be scheduled in February.
