Comparable to the 26 miles of a marathon, we find ourselves in a race to endure, overcome, survive and conquer the Covid-19 pandemic. We can see the goal, know we want to get there, must remain strong and remain vigilant to cross that finish line. It will take all of us to work together, stay focused and not falter in order to ensure that our cherished way of life can soon be realized again. As we arrive at this point, we must still follow the Governor’s guidelines to wear masks, continue to observe social distancing and practice proper hand sanitizing.
As we move forward, we should look back to see what we did to get to this point. We instituted Pop-Up Parks in order to provide outside dining for safety and to provide a level of normalcy and enjoyment. This also provided a means to allow us all to continue to support our local businesses. With Spring upon us, these areas will again serve the community to get outside and shake-off the feeling of Covid claustrophobia.
Consider coming to Main Street on Friday at Noon and experience the playing of our National Anthem, feel free to join in with the singing. You can enjoy a beautiful day and I guarantee that you will walk away after those two minutes with a song in your heart and a smile on your face. Stroll down to the new Pop-Up Park at the bank building. Perhaps it will be warm enough for you to sit, recharge and and listen to the calming sound of the park’s water fountain.
Unlike a marathon, we did not fill out an entry form and choose to enter this pandemic competition, to the contrary we were thrust onto the starting line and presented this monumental task. We were not given a choice and had to take this effort head-on. So we took on the crisis and gave it our all. From this tragedy, we reached down deep inside, rose to the challenge and have come out stronger.
Our resiliency is indicative of our great community as we kept moving forward, adapted and improved. As we are staring at the final mile markers, getting to the end is often the toughest part since we are all exhausted. However, using what we have learned over the past year and caring for each other we can do this and make it to the finish line. Perhaps July 4th we will all be able to Declare our Independence from Covid-19 and the pandemic.
