Disaster Relief Fund
Origin & History
Mount Airy has always been known as a caring community. The Mount Airy Disaster Relief Fund was established in 2005 when fire swept through 5 town homes and displaced several families. Response from local residents was quick and generous. Donations were immediately apportioned among the affected families.
As contributions continued to come in, the fund was officially established, soon gaining 501c3 status. The goal was to be ready for future fires or disasters that might strike local residents without warning.
2007 Fire Damage
Sure enough, in September 2007, Mount Airy suffered the devastating fire that burned out and severely damaged a sizeable section of the downtown area. Once again, local residents generously responded.
The Mount Airy Disaster Relief Fund (MADRF) distributed assistance to the 5 families and 7 businesses affected. The town bounced back as it has several occasions through its history.
Annual Incidents
Since 2007 nearly every year there has been a house fire, explosion, or other calamity to which the Mount Airy Disaster Relief Fund has been able to respond. Now more local families could use your generosity and support.
